June 17, 2017
- Carmel IN

Portland State University President Wim Wiewel presented the presidential medal to Albert Chen in recognition as of his distinguished advocacy and philanthropy to Portland State University.

Albert Chen now serves as Chairman of the Board of Telamon Corporation, a company that he founded in 1985 and previously served as President and CEO until 2015 when he turned the reins over to his son. Telamon started in the telecommunications industry but has expanded into industrial manufacturing and business process outsourcing. With over 1200 employees and $700M in revenue, Telamon is one of the largest privately held companies in Indiana.

“An immigrant and celebrated entrepreneur, Albert embodies the spirit of PSU and what it means to live the American dream,” said Portland State University President Wim Wiewel. “We are grateful for Albert’s lifelong dedication to education and to supporting the students at his alma mater. We are so proud to call both Albert and [his wife] Margaret alumni.”

The Portland State University presidential medal, first bestowed in 1976, is awarded to those dedicated leaders who have made countless contributions to PSU and the community. This is the sixth presidential medal awarded by President Wiewel in his tenure as president of PSU.
